Berkeley Bishops Welcome Irish Chess Champs

Chess. Most people view it only as a game. Others think of it as a battle of one mind vs. another in the world of 64 squares and 32 black and white pieces. But how many recognize its value in bringing people of differing backgrounds and cultures together through the common interest of chess? During the latter part of June and early July, nine children and five adults traveled from their native village of Straffan, Ireland to visit friends they had made the year before from the Bay Area.
